Artist guided walk for Sculpture in the Gardens with Richard Mathieson
Take a tour around our Sculpture in the Gardens exhibition with artist Richard Mathieson. Richard has a long association with Sculpture in the Gardens having held positions as the indoor gallery curator and one of the curators for the outdoor works in many of the early shows. Even though he has stepped away from official positions within the show, he has since displayed work and continues to be supportive of artists involved in the show.
Richard makes abstract sculpture that often references botanical growth, the repetition of nature, and landscape. He works primarily in bronze casting using the sand-casting method with the sand moulds being taken off crafted wooden patterns. His outdoor works are made up of multiple modular castings that are assembled onsite.
When you attend the walk please note:
- Meet in the Huakaiwaka visitor centre.
- This is a leisurely walk with one of our most experienced artists. The tour takes about 1.5 hours, sometimes a little longer if the conversation is flowing!
- Wear shoes suitable for the walk around the sculptures.
- Bring a sunhat, sunscreen and water bottle.
- We hope you enjoy your tour!
