Notice of gum tree removal on our Central Lawn

Two eucalyptus trees on our Central Lawn are being removed in early March.

The trees are in decline. Arborists have been carrying out proactive management for several years, including removing dead wood and reducing weight-bearing branches. Despite this work, the trees have continued to deteriorate, losing foliage and developing large dead limbs, and their overall form has become increasingly sparse.

Maintaining the trees has required significant ongoing work, and it is no longer the best use of our tree management budget to continue investing in trees that are steadily declining.

While it is always sad to remove established trees, the Gardens has an ongoing tree planting programme. New trees are regularly planted across the landscape to ensure the long-term health, diversity, and future canopy of the Gardens.
